 So does nitish!!!

Nothing could be more heartening for a man living in the world's largest democracy to see 

developemental issues win over casteism and petty politics in Bihar.It reaffirms one's belief 

in democracy and in the cliched expression that ballot is more powerful than the bullet.

Bihar,as a state had long been marred by myriad problems such as casteism, corruption at all 

levels, a widely underdeveloped infrastructure & even natural disasters like floods.The only 

industries that seemed to flourish during the past two decades had been those of extortion , kidnapping and mass massacres in the name of proving caste superiority. Every single representative sitting in the legislative assembly did seem to be struck by the lure of 

corruption. The MLA's competed among themselves to amass as much wealth as they could in every single way possible. But then a king is a king and here also the king, the chief minister (read laloo pd yadav) won by making money out of the most unimaginable places and getting named in some of the biggest scams of his time.

The tipping point came in 2005 as people gradually realised that they had been left an 

unfathomable distance behind in the race for development, they were being laughed at and that 

they had been misled by a machiavellian politician for the past 15 years who was least interested in their welfare.

It was the state assembly elections in the same year when people, fed up of the demagoguery of 

laloo, voted for a change, unsure of what the new government would have in for them but 

desperate enough to get rid of the existing anarchy. Nitish caught hold of the opportunity and 

crafted a state with a growth rate of 11.03% out of a state where people rarely understood the 

meaning of the words like GDP and growth and whose only expectation from the new government was to take bihar out of the 15 years of regression.He showed the vision of a true statesman in every initiative that he took, whether it was the decision to give 50% reservation to women in the panchayat elections or the astute implementation of the RTI act.His initiatives won applaudes even from the opposition(noticeably the prime minister) and the business houses an example of which is ET conferring him with the business reformer of the year award 

recently.People close to him vouch for his unflagging enthusiasm to bring a change in a land 

where all hope was lost and agree to have seen him working for 16-18 hours a day.

One doesn't have to be a staunch nitish supporter to eulogize his achievements in the past five 

years. The extent of his popularity can be gauged from the fact that the NDA has won almost 84% of the total seats in this election and that none of Rabri Devi, Pasupati Paras( Ramvilas 

Paswan's brother and deputy C.M candidate) or Mahbub Ali Kaiser( state congress chief) won the elections. Infact Rabri was defeated at both the seats that she fought at.

Though you have a long way to go Mr. Nitish, the length of your strides have already given us 

an idea of how big your ambitions for the state are and a hope that they would come true very 

soon.Common Nitish, let's build a state which our future generations would be proud of and 

where being called a bihari would be a matter of pride and not shame.
